About this item: The 2976 Chelsea boot retains the essential Doc DNA, featuring iconic yellow stitching, grooved sides, and a heel loop. Lined with warm faux fur, this boot is constructed for comfort on the iconic Dr. Martens air-cushioned sole. It is Goodyear-welted, meaning the upper and sole are sewn together in our heat-sealed z-welt stitch, ensuring durability and resistance to abrasion and slips.
This unisex boot pays homage to its Victorian predecessors while adding a touch of killer style. It embodies all the signature details of Doc's, including iconic stitching, grooved sides, and heel-loops. Built to last, it is crafted from highly durable leather and sits on an oil and fat resistant AirWair sole, providing excellent abrasion and slip resistance.
To maintain the quality and longevity of your boots, use Dr. Martens Wonder Balsam to protect the leather and keep them clean, soft, and supple.
Dr. Martens is a legendary brand that originated near Munich, Germany in 1945. Dr. Klaus Maertens, after injuring his foot in a skiing accident, designed a shoe with an air-cushioned sole for enhanced walking comfort during the healing process. The soles, constructed from old rubber tires, trapped air within closed compartments. Dr. Maertens shared his prototype with his engineer friend, Dr. Herbert Funck, and together they decided to further develop and produce the shoes.
Not only did the shoe resolve the doctor's immediate problem, but it also gained popularity in Germany. In 1959, Dr. Maertens and Dr. Funck recognized the need for a company to produce and distribute their shoes, which were then called Dr. Maertens, in other parts of the world. Initially, many manufacturers were skeptical of the air-cushioned sole, considering it a short-lived gimmick. However, the R. Griggs Group in England embraced the concept and created the first work boot with this revolutionary sole.
On April 1, 1960, they produced the first cherry red eight-eyelet work boot, which was named 1460. In order to better appeal to the English market, the brand name was anglicized to Dr. Martens. The range was branded as AirWair, and the rest is history.
